Heater Control Panel Illumination Questions
I am in the process of installing a new stereo and wanted fix some of the electrical issues I inherited. One of the more nagging is the heater control panel bulbs sagging below the dash. I'd like to get them working again and reinstalled back into the panel, but can't quite figure out what's going on. I have an unplugged Faston connection (green arrow) that should be hot but isn't. This looks like oem wiring up to this point.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1076885538.jpg Questions: Where should the connector (green arrow) be attached? Shouldn't there also be a brown wire to ground in this loop (rather than just between the bulbs as the red arrows show)? I have studied the schematics and still don't get this. TIA, |

I hope someone can give you an answer as I am in the same quandry. Charlie

I wonder if it went to your radio for the lumination??? just a thought

That's a good point, Tab,
I'll probably use that to tap into when I install the new head unit , if I ever get the power source ID'd - it appears that the blk/blu wire disappears into the trunk which has me stumped. Other suggestions appreciated. |
Inheirited 'creative' mods from the PO are always fun. I have lots of those great mods also from the PO. It looks like that faston may go to the ash tray light. My ash tray light has three connections and one is like the pic you posted. You are right about the brown ground wire, there should be one. You can just add one that goes to the ground junction under the dash. The blk/blu wire isn't hot until the headlight switch is at least at the first stop (parking lights).

There's an ashtray light? Hmmmmmm. Thanks, 5speed, guess I'm gonna have to dig more - I don't remember that in the schematics...

and the pass feet bulkhead has a good ground lug under there. |

Surely SOMEONE has successfully wrangled with this one...? Thanks, |
That connector (green arrow) looks like a remote turn-on lead for a component amplifier.

Mark...blk/blu wires in that area are for illumination. Check if when the headlight switched is pulled out to either of it's two stops, your gauges should light up and there should hot(+) power in the blk/blu wire at that Faston. If there isn't than someone has made a disconnection somewhere. The white connector in your pic shows that wire had been cut at one point. Who knows what else has been altered. First check if there is power at the blk/blu wire when the gauges are lit up.
