Clean looking car what do you think it is worth?

Here is a link for pictures. Nice 10 foot car. I heard a price of 50K!

$25k tops if its perfect. There was a well sorted 3.6 SC (car was white with Cup 1s on it) someone posted here about a month ago that sold for under $25k. Thats a nice car, but $50K is absurd. I'd believe that he had that much in it though.

speeder 02-16-2004 10:09 AM

Awfully nice car, but I have no idea what the market is paying for such a thing. It would cost a lot to duplicate, but at each price point they are competing w/ other, newer 911s. (993s, etc.).

My question is after all the time and expense why are people selling nice 3.6 project cars?

MuffinMan 02-16-2004 10:22 AM

The cars setup like this that I've seen have been in the $30ks asking, moving to the low $30ks or mid $20ks after negotiation. The second car you posted is in line with this pricing. Every car is different, but those are for well sorted cars with all the right stuff. If the car has only partial upgrades, such as a 3.6 but no suspension work, brake work, etc., then it's probably a low $20ks car.

A good rule that seems to work for a very general price baseline for "frankenstein cars", is to take the value of the mods, divide them by 2, and add that to the value of what the car would bring in stock configuration.

Elombard 02-16-2004 10:41 AM

Both seem loke really nice $25K cars - max. But beauty is in the eye.....

Mark Wilson 02-16-2004 10:50 AM

Hey Dane,
You think they'ed let us test drive that 74 this aft?

911Rob 02-16-2004 12:20 PM

It might only be worth $25, but from the list of upgrades done to that car you can bet it's had $50 spent on her.

Ouch!

I'd love to drive it and compare to my '74. ???
Can you bring it up here Mark on your test drive?
Thanks,

Sounds like some people are trying to recoup their expenses in what they put in their cars. What works in home remodeling isn't going to fly in cars.

Bet they would, but how could we keep a straight face when the guy says the price is $50K :)

ischmitz 02-16-2004 01:27 PM

If someone has really that much money in his project it might be smarter to take it apart and sell the pieces. Of course that doesn't recover labor.....

motor 10K
tranny 2K
suspension with brakes 3k+
set of tires 2k
interior 1k+

And then you end up with a real barebone you can use as a flower planter :D :D :D

Rick Lee 02-17-2004 08:41 AM

I just called and the price is $57,500. Is it really that outrageous? I'm very curious. Seller said he got the engine from PAR in NY and it had 15k miles on it then. He's put 2k miles on it since. Opinions please?

mjshira 02-17-2004 09:01 AM

57,500! someone needs to put down the crack pipe LOL but serious, 35 would be a fair number for this car IF everything checked out.

just my two cents

James

surflvr911sc 02-17-2004 09:20 AM

Both look like way cool cars but both are over priced. The SC is at least getting down in the ballpark.

I know I can't afford to sell mine.

rdane 02-17-2004 09:39 AM

There aren't many street legal Porsches that you can't buy for $57.5K.

mjshira 02-17-2004 09:45 AM

yeah, that one has been for sale for nearly 18 months, maybe more! When I got my car (1969 911E with full carrera swap from wiring to engine, etc.) I paid 18 and I saw the guys bills which were for nearly 40K! You can't get out of these what you put in UNLESS you run into the right buyer! Witness the 71S black on black and tricked out that was for sale for 35+ for months and months. Not sure what it finally sold for but I am sure it was not 35. But hey, if you don't need the money then I guess you can wait until that right buyer comes along...

For that kind of money, you can get a '93-'94 Turbo 3.6. Sure the old-time feel's gone, but it's a lot more car for the money.

rdane 02-17-2004 10:07 AM

Here is a better place to use 35/40K IMO.

Dane, it would have to be quite a car for me to imagine a selling price in the '30s. Generally, even real nice track cars go for mid to high twenties. With a fresh, young 3.6 Varioram, and the various other upgrades, and assuming the car is sorted and ready to rumble, prices in the thirties might be fair.

cary 02-17-2004 10:18 AM

That's why they call it fishing, not catching.
