SC headlights - how to make them brighter?
Preferably without replacing the headlights ...
Is it possible to fit a brighter bulb? The beam is pathetic! Ben |
Do have H-4's or US Sealed Beams?
With H-4's, you can get a new bulb. If you have US Sealed beams, a lower cost alternative to the Euro H-4's is the Hella H-4's that fit in the US lamp bucket. If you increase wattage, be sure to get the hedlamp relays to avoid melting you Porsche switches. |
Yep, what Harry said.

I'm in the process of changing mine over now. I installed the Euro H-4's last winter and now I'm replacing the bulbs with 100/130 bulbs. But before one does the new double relays along with new bulb sockets and 10 guage wiring is going in. What I'm trying to say is as you go to more powerful lighting the rest of the setup needs to be updated also. Check with Daniel Stern Lighting, he has a Website that will educate you in the matter. He's at www.danielsternlighting.com

Whatever was standard on the ROW car, so I guess H-4s?
Thanks for the link - seems the relays aren't expensive and the heavier wiring should be no problem, I have a good sparky. Ben |
You could replace the globes with xenon globes or blue vision bulbs, I did it with the H1's in my old 911 T and it made a big difference, no need for any rewiring either just a simple globe replacement.
I know they make them for H4's too. The ones I got were called Philips Vision Plus Philips |
Ben,
See here: http://members.rennlist.com/msucro1/relaykit.htm This guy sells relay kits designed especially for 911's includes all instructions. Just got mine yesterday! Cheers, Tim. |
You can install brighter, higher wattt bulbs, but be sure to use relays in conjunction w/ them. I have the same lights and use 60/100 bulbs. In addition the reflector sometimes gets dull/dirty w/ age. They can be disassembled for cleaning.
I used to think that the 60/100s were the best posssible lights but they come in a distant second to the Zenons in my Audi. I don't know if the Zenon types can be retrofitted to a 911:confused: |
Thanks, all. Tim, that kit looks perfect - 130w bulbs should do the trick!
Bill, I'm sure a Xenon conversion is possible, but you'd be talking many hundreds of dollars! Ben |
Yeah, it's well made, and only costs $25, including shipping to the UK!
I looked up the price of the relays/sockets/wiring on maplin.co.uk and it came to well over £20. Cheers, Tim. |

Good website, very informative. |
I just upgraded mine with H4s and new relays over the weekend. Easily done and there is even a tech article on this site which you can follow.
