JW's tip really does work!
It helped get my friend's 3.0 through our (strict as CA) smog test.

John.....this on a very good running 3.6. What "other" problems would there be besides the failing cats?

Some folks up here put a quart of methyl hydrate in with the gas. Apparently helps.

I don't think disconnecting an injector will get you anywhere. Doing so will cause the O2 % in the exhaust to rise substantially. Their testing machines measure O2, and when its too high it dilutes the reading, so they assume the problem is a massive exhaust leak. Their computer will then assign a multiplication factor to your HC/CO readings, bringing them back up to where they are now.
The best way to beat the test when you are that close is to knock back the idle advance 2-3º.

I broke down and bought a used smog tester. They made most of the old machines obsolete when OBD came out....you would think some company would have made some type of interface to make them compliant.

Anyways...200 bucks and a I got a machine that will do all the gases and I can play with it and validate all the intereting information I have here on MY time, not a wrench's that gets 90+ an hour.....

Mike, if you test with the RXP stuff, I'd love to know the results. There is a automotive talk show guy in Dallas that really believes in it's use for emissions reduction. I know he gets paid to advertise, but he seems credible.

don't knock the delete injector trick until you've tried it. (this is for non OBDll engines). it does work.

Yes, but the input for that control comes only from one bank since your exhaust setup does not have a mixing chamber.

And you are lucky. The clean bank will become much cleaner by disconnecting one injector. One barrel will just pump air and dilute the exhaust gasses like John said. Tou can pass while the oxygen sensor on the other bank does not notice the hoax.

Gee thanks buddy......aren't you supposed to be working?

Went to talk to the muff guy yesterday....the cats have a 25K warranty....but only after I take them off and send them back and then they examine them.....

Took a pyrometer to them when they were hot.....the inlet and exit temps are supposed to be ~100F different.....they ain't.....

Oh well, I get to play with my new exhaust analyzer this weekend and play with cocktailed fuels....

I sold an atlas bear gas analyzer about 18 months ago for $175, didn't have a use for it at the time and it was taking up space.
A local gas station went self serve/car wash and I picked up a bunch of stuff for almost nothing. I think I paid $200 for the stuff and ended up selling it all for $2500
