Big miss when I am laying on it
So,
I am just at the early stages of the next puzzle. My 74 with the fresh rebuilt 77 3L transplant has started doing a little funny. When I put the gas pedal to the floor and enjoy the fun, the engine drops out once at around 4.5-5.5k rpm for a half a second or so. More than a miss but less than a complete shutdown. Just enough to push me forward into my seat belts. It has happend just twice so far in the last two weeks. At all other times the car starts, idles and runs just great. I have not noticed the tach jumping during the event, but am not 100% on that. Here is what the car has after the rebuild: Pertronix ignitor II pointless points Bosch CD ignition original to the 74' New fuel pump New WUR Professionaly cleaned injectors Rebuilt Dizzy from the C3 New Magnacore wires I am guessing coil, CD box, or loose wire. I can't see how the CIS would do this, but am open to ideas. What do you all think it is?

Just a wild a$$ guess it would be something ignition related...
In my 3.2, I had the EXACT same symptoms that was caused by a failing Cylinder Head Temp sensor. Can be a frightening feeling when it "kicks" back on. Can't be good on the drivetrain....

John,
I would double check the condition of the wire from the distributor to the CD box. Replaced mine last winter, the wire was dried out and half broken. Thirty year old wires get fragile and broken easily. I'd check the connectors too. You could just make up a wire and connectors to test for the problem. It is a shielded wire, but a non-shielded would work for test purposes. Look inside the distributor cap, for arcing at the rotor. Double check the center wire from the distributor to the coil too. If not sure try your old one. Check the power wire to the CD box. If it is old (original), replace it. Let us know what you find.
