Backfire on 89 3.2

I noticed yesterday, that if I sit at idle and very slightly blip the throttle only to about 1500 rpms, on perhaps every third blip I get a single backfire.

Can any of you confirm if this is normal? Or if not, what may be a likely cause?

Many thanks.

Mark

Hi Mark,

My 3.2 does this too. And betwwen most gear changes also. Nothing to be concerned about.

If you have a non standard exhaust setup, it will amplify the issue also.

Second thought:

How loud is the backfire?

Thanks for responding.

I would say that the volume of the backfire could be descibed as muffled. Not the kind you hear from an old car as it drives past your house kind of volume. Does that make sense? More like a pronounced 'Phutt' sound than a clear 'Bang'.

The car does have stainless exhaust and exchangers, but nothing racey looking.

Good to hear.

I am sure other more technically inclined types will chime in but in my experience this is as normal as the occasional oil leak or smoke on start up.
