2.7 engine into 1982 SC?
I'm looking at a 1982 'SC' that is in good shape with no motor\tranny.
Aside from electrical, which I can do, will my 1975 2.7'S' engine and early 901 tranny combo bolt right in? (This is running strongly right now in my '69 rust bucket, est. 200HP; Webers and SSI's) Will the CV joints of the newer car still match the old '69 901 flanges? What about the tranny mount? Shifter linkage? Etc? |
No responses to your question. I guess you will be the first to do it. I don't have an answer for you either. My only comment would be why would you down size? I could see going to a 3.2 or the radical 3.6 conversion for more performance. I gues if you asked that question you would have gotten a lot of hits.

It should be a easy bolt in. You will need many parts from the 69` but would be no problem at all. What comes to mind is
Clutch cable tranny crossmember speedo conversion to mechanical voltage regulator ?? low psi fuel pump and cap off the return line from the tank muffler tailpipe will have incorrect angle if stock for 69(get out your torch) Your 901 4 bolt axles will work fine Thats about all that comes to mind. Install that 2.7 and enjoy your lightweight powerplant/tranny into that pig. Should be nice with 200hp and a 7/31 geared 901. You will be saving about 100lbs in the rear as well. The 901 tranny is a much better shifting box as well. I would consider it an upgrade to such a car providing you have a well sorted 2.7 . BTW if your real question was mounting points(engine brace/crossmember) . YES its all the same dimentions for the 3.0/915 and the 2.7/901 . ENJOY ! Kurt Williams complete shifter assembly |

901 box has 4 bolt flanges.
later 915 (from like mid '75 onward) has 6 bolt flanges. The stub axles may be compatible, you could take them out of the '69 and put them in the SC, or get a set of custom axles with a 6-bolt on one end and a 4-bolt on the other, or machine the 901 case to accept the later flanges. Or you could get some 4-bolt aluminum bananas from a 74, that would work. Not a bad idea, anyway, if somewhat unconventional. Good luck! |
All thats needed is to remove the large nut under the wheels centercap and pull the outer stub axle`s out of the SC . Then pull the whole axle out of the 69 and slide it into the SC. Its that easy , and yes the splines are the same. Bottom line is that he allready has what he needs in the donor car.
