930 turbo engine numbers?
 

im looking at a 3.3turbo engine this week and im hoping someone could tell me what number it should have to authenticate it as a 3.3 turbo. im in the uk so i dont know if that makes a difference to what the number might read.
the engine is complete and out of the car. also while im here, what can i look for that will help determine if its any good? i realise that without seeing it running im taking a risk but is there anything i can check anyway?

I am not sure about the #'s. If it were me I would have a leakdown done. My 930 motor had leakdown #' of 1% to 2.5% when I bought it. So I new at least the rings and valves sealed.

Case should say 930.101.103.4R. There is and intercooler, turbo plumbing, CIS plumbing, squashed intake and loads of other stuff that will indicate it as 930 engine.

Take a look at some pictures and you'll spot it easily.

US Models 930 3.3 Liter were 930/61, 63, 64, and 68. R.O.W numbers were 930/60, 66 and Japan was 930/62, 65.

If you're trying to read the VIN it would be helpful to know what year the car is as the VIN numbering changed.

are all these 930 numbers that you have given the case numbers or do any of these numbers correspond to the verticle number by the fan?

The engine serial number is the verticle one by the fan that it seems you've found. Right behind it engraved on the horizontal surface (kinda hidden) is the engine and type number. I.e., 930/61. It is kinda hard to see but you can find it.

The engine/type number must match the year in the VIN if you are trying to figure out if you have the right engine. Hence I asked what year as the VIN scheme changed around 1981. If you tell me the year in the VIN or purported year then I can tell you the correct engine and type number. That number is more important than the engine serial number although I'm sure someone has a range of valid serial number per engine type number as well.

the guy doesnt know what year car that the engine came from! he just says that its a 3.3 turbo!

p.s. what does R.O.W stand for?!?

simple when u know............

Engine only? Just look for the engine/type number right behind the verticle engine serial number. Five digits e.g. 930/61... No VIN as that is on the car so it doesn't matter. From the last two digits of the engine/type number you can tell the model year. Since you're in UK I'll guess ROW so a 60 would be 1978-1982, 66 would be 1983-1987.
The serial number then would fall into a specific year but I don't have that detail.

And now YOU know!
Kinda sounds goofy when speaking of an engine that was manufactured in Europe refering to the home configuration as "ROW".
