Could this be the culprit of my start problem??

Well after 4 months of daily driving, I was able to enjoy the feeling of being without a start problem. Initially, my car would cut off after a massive bump and wouldn't start back up. I assumed it was the fuse block and maybe the relays. So I put some new relays in, replaced the ignition switch, and had a shop redo the middle fuse block. Well, after all that my 911 ran and started fine until last night. I was driving on a local highway when suddenly she stalled out and I couldn't start her back up again. So after pushing my SC over two lanes in a 55mph zone:eek: , I took out the fuel pump relay. I knew it wasn't the fuel pump since I could hear it when the key was turned to position two. After taking out the relay, to my surprise I noticed that the relay socket was fried. Luckily I had some jumper wires and bypassed the relay, and she started up fine again. At first the alligator clips weren't making contact, so I had to jiggle it in place. Could this faulty socket be the reason why my SC had this problem all along? BTW, the shop I took it to were the ones that fried the socket!

Looks like we have a winner...

Let it happen again (better if you can persuade it to stall in a controlled situation). Then use your jumpers to see if it cures. If so you most likely have slain the dragon.

New relay socket: PN A-612-33-00 at Pelican for $32.00. Clamp/solder it into place. I'd replace the relay too as that arc/heating didn't help the matching relay pin either. It would be good to locate the cause of the arc although it could have been just a loose pin to socket contact slowly getting hotter and thermally "running away". However, fuel pump could also be failing and starting to draw excessive current. Good luck, Jim

Thanks everyone. Rick, I let it happen again, and stalled out purposely. Except this time,it had no problem starting back up and I didn't need to use the jumper wires to start it. This intermittent problem is a PITA. Jim, I just ordered a new relay socket from pelican. I am going to splice the old ones then solder, and use some heat shrink tubing to seal it up. Jim, my car originally came from New Mex., the first owner was from Albuquerque, then it was sold to someone in AZ.
