Good racing handbooks
When I started road racing motorcycles in the 80's i used Keith Codes "A Twist of the wrist" to learn the skills of racing a motorcycle with good results. I liked his concept of a dollars worth of attention to spend, and how to cut attention costs by automating activities.
I suppose a lot of this motorcycle theory is just as applicable when it comes to car racing, but I am looking for a really good book on auto racing in general and Porsche racing in particular. I suppose Vic Elfords book i mandatory reading. Is this the best book around, or are there other suggestions out there. Thanks

Going Faster! by Carl Lopez. A very good read.
You can find it on our host's lovely store.

While Elford's book is OK as a driver's handbook, it's hardly top of the class. The book's that I'd rate above it are...
* Think to Win by Don Alexander * Pricipals of Performance Driving by Jackie Stewart * Drive to Win by Carroll Smith * The Techniques of Motor Racing by Pierro Taruffi * Competition Driving by Prost and Rousselot Unfortunately none of them are Porsche Specific, but what they discuss is as applicable to 911's as to FF's. Speaking of which, I haven't read "Going Faster", but I've got the video and took the course. If the book is anything like the other two, it will be worth the money.

The "Going Faster" book is the best I've read. I've got the others, they are great as well with much useful info. The "Going Faster" book goes into incredible detail on how minor adjustments affect speed and lap times. It really helped illustrate many of the details that were illustrated as clearly in some other books.
