Need Help! Front T Bar Insatall

Hi,

I can't get the front t bars to fit. It seems as though the splines are too large for the a-arms and the adjustment cap.

I bought Welt bars from our host, 22mm fronts, for a 73 911E. They look to be the correct part# and the ends look to be the same size as the orginals but I can't get them to slide in.

The originals do seem to be more tapered than the Welts. Should I grind them down a bit?

Am I missing something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Switch the bars from left to right and see if they go in. I bought the same bars and had a tough time with one on the end with the heights adjustment. I used a little persuader, but I wasn't thrilled about it. Maybe try to fir the adjuster cap on all the ends and see if there is any variation in size.

Thanks John.

I did try to fit the adj cap on each t-bar but neither one fits.

I'll try switching the bars now switching the bars in the A arm.

Stay tuned!

Do not switch the bars! These sound like aftermarket bars which will generally have a "L" or "R" stamped in rear portion of the bar. These are supposedly pre-stressed to flex in one general direction. As far as fitment, the front splines are the same as the rear. Perhaps the front splines are slightly larger on the outside diameter then the original bars. This is common for the rears, especially on Sway-A-Way brands. Take a flat bastard file and reduce minimally the top edge of the splines and keep test fitting until it fully seats. Don't forget to coat the whole bar with a liberal amount of grease prior to finishing

I switched the bars to see if there was any difference in the fit.

They still will not mate with the a arm or adj cap.

I'll try filing the tops of the splines next.

Has anyone else ever had a problem with the fit of front weltmeister torsion bars in an early car?

There has been the odd fit problem with these bars for years. You may have to very carefully file the splines to fit. These bars are known to sometimes require hand fitting.
