what is this part, fell from my car?

ok, my turn. i took out my alternator, as i pick up a tool, i see this mystery part under my car! what the heck is it?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1077486859.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1077486872.jpg

looks like the red stuff is some type of electrical insulation plastic. perplexing!

It's a coin, you can use them in shops and vending machines :)

RoninLB 02-22-2004 02:03 PM

maybe your shroud has an open hole now

onewhippedpuppy 02-22-2004 02:05 PM

A muffler bearing, totally useless.:p Put the car back together without it, if it runs ok you didn't need it in the first place.:D Still taking stuff apart, huh? I'm polishing my Fuchs with Wenol, the car may not run, but it sure looks purty in the garage.

you clowns!

Rubber shock mount for air pump support bracket?

onewhippedpuppy 02-22-2004 02:18 PM

Another reason to get rid of the air pump! To hell with emissions, you'll lose drag on the engine (more HP) and less weight where your car needs to lose it. BTW, do you still have thermal reactors or any of the other evil emissions crap?

Jim Sims 02-22-2004 02:23 PM

"BTW, do you still have thermal reactors or any of the other evil emissions crap?"

I seem to recall that the OEM "evil emissions crap" is required if one wants to pass the smog inspection and register the car in California. Jim

vash 02-22-2004 02:31 PM

i just registered my car and the DMV agreed that my 75 is excempt! so i am free to slam the honda VTEC motor in. just kidding.

no jim, i got lucky, my 75 is the 49 state version, so no thermal reactors. i dont think that part is for anything important due to the lack of motor oil on it. everything that comes from my car or touched it has this signature trademark.

Looks similar to the throttle linkage anti vibration link from the part of the linkage that comes out of the bulkhead. Did you find it about right under the axle? the new one (replacement) looks like a little can or barrel. The old (original) looks like that with threads and washers at both ends.

i did find it under the axle! what do you think it is? is it crucial?

It is a part of the throttle linkage. They break and you have no pedal. It can be left off. All it does is prevent vibrations from tranferring to your foot. The replacements have a sleeve aroung them so you can keep driving. I'm not sure that is what you have there, but it looks like one.

sammyg2 02-22-2004 06:28 PM

There's a rubber mounting thingy on the front (towards the front of the car) of the CIS air box that looks kind of like that picture iffn it wasn't all broke like that.

Jim Sims 02-22-2004 06:48 PM

I'm looking at one of the old style throttle linkage rubber vibration elements (took it out of my '76 when I upgraded to the metal surrounded version) and it doesn't look like that; it has a female thread in both ends that the threaded throttle rods screwed into. The item in the picture looks like it has a stud protruding from it. Jim

When was the last time you saw a vending machine that took pennies? Possibly a gum machine on the New York subway stations in the 1960"s. That's the last time I can remember.

Cliff,

That is one form of emergency/temporary freeze plug for a water-cooled engine ... might have been used as a hole plug.

real550A 02-22-2004 07:25 PM

Looks like the factory E-Ram delete plug to me!

sammyg2 02-22-2004 08:37 PM

This is what i was talking about, does it look close to what you have? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1077511068.jpg

the shroud pic from my secret files doesn't list a part number for #10.
I could find it if I dig deep into my mess.
