G50 Clutch Problem-Slipping then Kaput
 

On my last trip out as I was climbing a fairly steep hill on the Interstate, the clutch began to slip...(raise in RPM with no appreciable increase in MPH). Then at the stop light at the exit ramp, it was difficult to get into gear and the shifting became progressively worse until it came to the point that depressing the clutch pedal had minimal effect in allowing me to engage ANY gear. I eventually made it home by matching the RPM's to each gear.

Thought someone had some insight on what parts to replace. The trans is strong, clutch disk (rubber center) was replaced about 60,000 miles ago in 1992. Car has 135,000 miles on the odometer now. The update for the G50 was never completed back then.

I thought I knew how the clutch works, with the throwout bearing putting pressure on the pressure plate thereby releasing the disk, so why would it go from slipping to not working at all?

Are you sure you didn't lose pressure in the hydraulic system? Did the clutch pedal travel as usual?

Sorry to hear this. My car's clutch failed at the end of summer. The rubber center had totally disintergrated. I'm surprised they didn't fix the throw out fork and would'nt be surprised if it didn't have something to do with the failure. Mine was sintered as most shown with that failure demonstrate.

I'll have to check on that. If I remember correctly there was no diminished travel with the pedal. I replaced the slave the previous season after loosing the pedal. The car see's about 15 DE events annually.

Bump....per the previous post...checked the pedal and it has the same tension as before.
