Leather repair

My dash trim, seats, and window trim, all a darkish maroon leather are scuffed and worn in some areas. Is it possible to fix this, repaint it somehow, make it look like brand new again?

(1986 911 Carrera Coupe)

Thanks- Matt

Matt,

Redye the leather, then condition it to make sure it stays supple and doesn't crack. Follow the instructions carefully and control the ambient temps so the products works properly. It will trun out great, leather is remarkably durable if cared for properly.

I used products and technique from colorplus.com ... and here are the results. The new color is Beige Grey #927. My original color is Doric gray. I've seince sent in a sample from the bottom of my seat to match exactly the original color. The process on their web site is exactly what I followed and it took me about 6 hours across a few weeks to complete one seat.

Tony, did you have any prior experience doing that? What a difference, looks great. Did your passenger seat have the same use as your driver seat?

http://www.reconproducts.com is the best and have the lowest prices, I had major issues with leatherique's customer service and dye match ablilities when redying my interior on my 328 and finially gave up on them a year later, Recon is better stuff and have excellent service.

Yes, you can make your interior look new and its an easy but time consuming project.

Dan,

no prior experience.... lot's of thought, but no hands on. I should have taken a before picture of the entire passenger side. The seat looked the same with the exception that the driver side is a bit more fragile; the underlying leather is beginning to thin but has the same cracks. What you might want to do is look closely at your seats and identify the worst areas. The cracks will typically be in the finish and not the leather. By using small amounts of quick dry laquer thinner, you'll feather and remove old cracked layers of finish exposing the uncracked leather.

The rest of the seats, you'll just lightly scuff with 400 grit paper and remove the faded/dry finish and prep for re-dying. After the prep work, the dye process takes no longer than the time to brush on the colorant.

Send me some mail... I will be happy to share my experience.

From what I've heard (and my own experience) Color Plus is best for color matching. Even if they stock your color provide a sample as Tony mentions.
