Radcon,
I am by no means a CIS expert (and I don't even play one on TV), but I just got through helping a friend diagnose his CIS problems (which ended up being all related to this relay - Thanks Pelican BBS!). Anyway, when we were troubleshooting it, I did not hear any "click" when the key was turned on, even though we were getting voltage at the plug. I pried off the metal cover, looked around inside, and plugged it back in. Friend started the car and it still ran crappy - Until I pushed the relay contact closed with my finger, and everything cleared up immediately. We knew we had our culprit, replaced the relay and everything is great today. Bottom line to all of this: Relays like this one are only higher current carrying on-off switches. When the ignition is on, the relay will close and allow current to pass. It will not cycle on-off while the key is on, that is left to other components of the system. 911Ken: Bump = Bring Up My Post from what I have heard. Tom

OK - I'm back and even more frustrated. I tested all the power from the lambda brain, replaced the relay, etc. Even swapped out the brain with another 911SC...Still no power to the Frequency Valve...used a mechanic's stethoscope and got no buzz. Put the scope on the other 911SC and it was very apparent. A (paid) wrench at a local tech inspection plugged in a sensor to the FV harness and the light didn't come on or pulse. So, no power getting to the FV....
What now??? Thanks for any suggestions! Ken

911Ken, bump is just a way to get your tread back to the top of the board, this way you have a chance for more people to view.

Ken,
Try this. Remove the heater motor and near the firewall and left hand shock tower you will see a multi pin plug. Remove the plug and carefully slide the cover off of it. Next trace the FV wires back to the plug and find the corresponding female mate on the firewall. Connect volt meter and see if you have power there. My FV wasn't working either and after testing the continuity of the wires, the resistance in the FV coil and the power leads at the box and relay it turned out to by the 14 pin (?) connector...pretty corroded. Once cleaned, mine worked. At any rate it's free and relatively easy and you'll be able to better isolate your power supply issue... R/ Dustin |

oh...PS...if I remember correctly, power will only be supplied with the air meter plate pushed upward...noy just with the ignition...

Dustin,
Thanks for the info. I will try first thing this weekend. I've been thumbing through the Benltey and some Bosche tune-up books.... Ken
