Interior Stuff?
I am in the final stages of a restoration of my 74 911 Targa Project Car, quality 2.7 engine rebuilt (many upgrades) is done, qualify paint job (Indian Red) is done. I am ready to do the interior, which has the original brown/tan (babysh_t brown) interior and I want to go with a black interior.
I would like some input on a source of interior items, carpet kits, new side walls, seat covers or new seats and so on. Who has good quality items at decent prices? I buy stuff from Pelican, but what about places like Autos International, Parts Obsolete, Applied Business Concepts (they have a lot of stuff on eBay) or Original Fit Interiors. |
I got my interior from world upholstry because the shop I use uses them for all their restorations, not only P-cars. I am very pleased with the quality of their kits. One thing though. If you have to redo your back self and rear quarter panels I suggest you call Stoddard Imports. They have original Porsche panels for some early cars that are a lot less work than the recover kits. On some later models Stoddard only has recover vinyl or leather like the other venders. Whoever you use, get an extra yard of material to use on places like the pillars for the doors and windshield. The extra material comes in handy and is not very expensive. Have fun. I have.

My World Upholstery kit was great. Used AppBiz for my door panels, i recommend them also.

I recently converted my interior from tan to black. Here are some thoughts. Some things you will have to find used / new-in-box from a private party: dash board, door top pieces, rear quarter top pieces (you could re-cover these), knee pads, rear seats, front seats (you could dye or recover your seats as well). While other things can be had new / aftermarket: carpet kit, rear deck (appbiz), door panels (appbiz), floor mats. And other things can be done with some high-quality black vinyl and patience: rear quarter panels, door pillars. I guess it all comes down to how original you want the car to be and how much you're willing to do yourself.

World and appbiz are your best bets, with appbiz prolly being the best for interior stuff. My Targa headliner and German repro vinyl from world was top notch.:D

I also hated the color & condition of my interior (Doric Grey), & decided to go all black. I went with Corbeau seats & harnesses, appbiz carpets, visors, & door panels, got my dash from Sunset Porsche in Beaverton, knee pads & window sills from ebay, odd & ends from Pelican, bought some high qaulity black vinyl from a local fabric store for the door posts & am waiting for my new black shifter from Wevo (back ordered).

I used World for the carpet and matts and Appbiz for the door panels. Great customer service from both companies. World dinged me pretty good for extra carpet for my speaker enclosures though.

"I also hated ... Doric Grey..."
BTW, if any of you guys have an old car with a Dorian Grey interior, I'd get rid of it real fast! |
Might want to keep an eye on these.
