Rain!!

The wind and rain this morning was insane! The gusts of wind were tossing me all over the place. I was using my wipers at the highest speed (which is much faster than any other car I've ever had). The windshield fog never got clear on the top half. There were a few puddles that made spectacular rooster tails.

I've driven in some pretty crazy weather and this morning was one of the craziest. The good thing was the fact that people were acutally pretty sane this morning. The number of full bore ********* moves was way down.

911 rain positives:

great traction
great steering feedback
great brakes
won't suck water into the engine in even the deepest puddles
hypersonic windshield wipers

911 rain negatives

poor de-fogging
very high cross wind drag

Any other bay area pelicans have an adventure this morning?

I got to drive through some deep puddles!

Funny the list of positives and negatives you list. I drove my beater T-bird to work: horrible traction, horrible brakes, horrible steering feedback. Pretty much the opposite of the 911!

CHP had something like 56 reported incidents by 7:30 this morning.

Rain-X (or something equivalent) and new wipers does magic keeping the windshield clear.

I put my 9 under a tarp, loaded it down with bricks, and took the Subaru to work and never got out of 3rd gear. Im not used to these tropical ocean storms, we don't ever have these in Michigan. A good Michigan storm would be loaded with lightning or would be below freezing. Yeah, its pretty nuts outside, but that makes being at the office that much easier

Oh, great! Is this what I have to look forward to in about six hours?

Hmm...maybe I should break out the SUV...

Thanks for the forecast...

My commute is about 1.5 miles. So was always I rode the bicycle, but in that distance I was drenched!
My rain guage measured almost 2 inches for the night!

On the radio I heard them say that there had been 26 new 'incidents' since their last traffic report (~15min)!

I have a bottle of FogX in my bathroom cabinet that I use on the mirror for shaving after a shower, but I've never put it on in a car since it has to be reapplied often. I may try it in the 911.

It's been a while since I have used RainX but the stuff is great.

MichiganMat, nice combo 74 with 3.0. You gotta get SSIs now that you are exempt!

Don't 911's have the same problem that all other cars have with exhaust in puddles? If you drag the exhaust underwater, isn't there some problem with backpressure causing bad problems?

Try having a 911 as a daily driver in the North East.

The climate is a better "dance" instructor than Fred Astaire.

Lost 3 1/2 minutes off my normal Livermore-to-Fremont commute.

Sacramento is getting blasted today too. Drove the 4Runner (911 is all apart anyway). Greatest foul weather product on the planet: RAINEX. Don't leave home without it. Works great on helmet visors too (motorcycle or formula-type race car).

I drove the alternate vehicle today too. Drive wasn't bad (short) but I've been watching the palm trees blowing around all morning. Love a good storm! Have to go bail out the 911 when I get home though. Wish it would stop raining long enough for me to fix the windshield leak.

Only in CA would rain be considered a major hazardous driving experience!

Judging by the number of traffic incidents this morning, it is hazardous.

Good thing we don't get snow.

Yeah it would: because no one knows how to drive in it when eating their nachos and yappin' on the cell phone at the same time...

No rain down here yet, not much swell in the water either. But the approaching rain will also bring some kick ass swell, I'm definitely not going to work tomorrow.

Yea that says 16-25 foot waves.

I live in the Seattle area. If rain was considered hazardous weather here, we'd never go to work. We've gotten more rain in the last two weeks than some places I've lived get all year. About a year ago, I ran into a guy who claimed to own a shiny new Nissan 350Z. He said he had promised himself he would never drive it in the rain. At that point, he had owned it for like 5 months, and still hadn't put more than 100 miles on it. hahaha, poor bloke.
