Anybody Have Car Insurance In PA??

This is a crosspost from Rennlist:

I called my insurance carrier today (selective of north carolina) to arrange coverage for an 87 3.2 I'm getting ready to buy and was told that this car is on a "restricted list." This means they will not cover the car! Needless to say, I'm checking different insurance carriers.

Anyone have the same experience, especially in PA?

HELP -- Can't buy the car if I can't insure it!

A "restricted list"??????

Sounds like a bunch of insurance company BS to me. I'm with Progressive and there hasn't been anything like that brought up (although I drive a 944). No reason to think it would be different for a 911(?)

Its total BS, my insurance co ( USAA ) has never hasseled me about any car I have every owned even when I lived in NJ ( the insurance nightmare state)

Nationwide has never been a problem for my '87 Cab here in SE PA

I'd make some addtional inquiries as to what that means. Is it simply uninsurable by them, or are there age restrictions etc?

State Farm has no problem w/ my Targa, its almost as cheap as my pickup.

I have Erie Ins. the only thing I ever hear from them is "we are insuring this car because you are a long time customer we do not normally insure high horsepower low weight cars."

State Farm for me and no problems at all. I do have mine registered as a recreational car as it is a 2nd car for me.

Thank for your help and support! I contacted Progressive (thanks Panzer909) and they will insure a 87 Carrera 3.2 for the same amount as my BMW 2.8 Z3.

I use Hagerty for the 911, but it is a third car for me. They won't cover a daily driver.
