scruffys new light wieght roll bar

well i guess that tysons(tre motorsport super "evil ring leader") car scruffy has become pretty popular(almost as much as jack olsens beutiful 72 rsr) so i decided to post some pics of us or him building his rollbar the other night. it came out really *****en. i was sitting there with rulers and paper and whatever scientific gadgets i could find in daves garage for the project. needless to say that we did not use any of them. i was inpressed that he has a pretty good eye on these kind of things. anyway, i sure that he will jump on this thread and explain. note the other helper we had. those brits will break for tea any chance they get.

Hey cool! Thanks for posting the pic's Joe!

BTW, I'm forwarding this post to your grade-school grammar teacher. I think your going to be getting a pretty nasty phone call!

If anyone cares, the old bar was an Autopower weighing 51# with all hardware. The new bar, which is mild steel for the main hoop, and 1.5" dia. .095 cro-moly tubing for the rest, weighs in at 34#
But the best part is that it attaches to the main structural members of the chassis, making it more effective for safety as well as chassis stiffening. It will also be the basis for the eventual full bolt-in cage. I used Jack Olsen's car as a model, which is also based on our (TRE) RS/RSR replica roll bars.

Tomorrow, it goes to the welders to be finish-welded. I'm a good welder, but the cro-moly tubing requires a skill and method that is beyond my skill level. (I don't like to take chances on a safety device that could one day save my life.)

The lounging Brit in the pic is Rob Dickinson. He owns the Bahama Yellow '69 911 with the RSR finish Fuch's. It was posted on the Mulholland Run thread. Gorgeous car, which now has a center fill for the gas tank, and another new paint job, said by him to be even nicer than before. (Thanks to Automotive Restorations and Innovations, AKA KevinP73) Can't wait to see it!

Funny you mention that. My rollbar will be the new pattern for the Cab/Targa version of our RS/RSR bar. I'll have to trial-fit it into a Targa first, but if it fits, it's a go. My bar clears the seat belt reels, as does our upcoming new version of the RS/RSR replica rollbars.

A full cro-moly version of my bar would weigh 5 pounds less.

You realize that fabrication abilities in a man attracts women like moths to bright lights.

Yeah, yeah, so you're asking, "And what's your excuse, Dave?"

Can you believe devilish good looks.

P.S.: I'll take a rollbar, in yellow...

Hell, why didn't you say so? When do you want me down for a trial fit? I'm sure you will want me to run it for a while to make sure all the bugs are out.

Dave, we already know why the women flock to you, cartoons!

Tyson, any chance of making a bolt-in bar, something to compete with the Das Sport?

Oh, u da man!

OnT- I was talking to Dave about the cro-moly Targa bar last month, he said it might not be ready 'til around fall, any update?
I'm going to need it if I end up having to run in V2.

My bar is a bolt-in. Well, it's removeable anyway. You just weld in the mounting plates, then the rollbar bolts to them. It's not that difficult. It's the only way to really tie a rollbar into the structural members of the chassis. It might be possible to build a bar like mine that can be bolted to the seat belt mounts. I'll give it some thought.

a personal note:
when nasa first started sending astronauts into space they realized the a ball point pen didnt work in zero gravity. so to combat this problem nasa spent 12 million dollars and a decade to develope a pen that writes in zero gravity, 300 degrees below zero, upside down, and even writes on glass.
THE RUSSIANS USED A PENCIL!
have fun paying your taxes guys!

So what color should I powder-coat my rollbar? (Don't you dare say flat-black!)
