Look out TX - here I come

Life throws curve balls at you and you have to step out of the way or hit it out of the park.

My job was scheduled to end this summer and after a whirlwind of the past two weeks I have accepted a new position in Austin, TX. Looks like I am relocating by the middle of next month. The 911's will follow as soon as a new house and garage space are secured.

I can't wait to check out the new area's twisties and meet some people. The thought of driving year round is exciting. No more salt, greatly reduced traffic. Its all good.

Any suggested roads in that area? Any suggested places to house hunt? Will I look stupid in a cowboy hat and boots? Can you heel/toe in snakeskins? (just kidding about the hat and boots I know I would look stupid) Thanks in advance

Dude you are gonna love Austin.

My co. has an office down there and I love to visit.

Keep trying to get myself transferred but no go.

Sun shines 300 days out of the year.

Just can't get used to the breakfast burritos. They TexMex the hell out of everything.

Some great night life in Austin, pretty hard to beat.

Good Luck,
Scott

at the risk of a major flame job, austin is the only texas city i would accept to live in anymore. i grew up in west tex, almost newmexico but i lived in austin for about a year once when i ran away from home and all my responsiblities (long story). austin is great! nice people, girls are cute, and very diverse thanks to the university. congrats on the new job! and yes unless your name is tim mcgraw, and you have a hot wife named faith hill, you WILL look dumb in a cowboy hat and boots.

get ready for some humid hell this summer. phew.

Jamie,
Congratulations!!!!! The TX hill country is one of the most beautiful places in the world. There's great food, music, history, and landscape everywhere you look. It is one of my favorite places and I know I'll end up there someday too. Best of luck on the move.

moving from VA to TX, I would hope that you aren't going to become a Cowboys fan. If so, some of your DC area friends might disown you, smile.

You can't hardly beat the twisties here in the hill country. Just remember to visit Lime Creek Road when you get your car here. It's ~13 miles of nothing but the best twisties. I go there frequently with my friends. You will see all kinds of great cars there every weekend.

Austin is great, not really any hotter than NoVA can get during the summer except is stays hot here longer. There are lots of great roads around Austin, and the Hill Country PCA is pretty active with some cool stuff that goes on and some good shops in the area. It's also a beautiful area, not to mention all of the eye candy (it's a college town).

Less traffic, hmm, not necessarily, I know DC is bad, but Austin, Houston, and Dallas are also bad (Houston is probably the best of the three for traffic).

Congrats, welcome to year long driving!

Jamie, we've spoken already, but once again, let me welcome you to God's country. You will love living in the middle of the Texas Hill Country. I lived up and down I-95 my entire adult life and I enjoyed it. However, its good to be home. I hear Round Rock is nice. I would recommend living close to work as I hear traffic is becoming an issue.

Don't worry Richard, In true NoVA style, those Texans will drive off in fear they may be missing a drivetrain if they park at the grocery store for too long .

Hmm I guess its a good thing I saved all the AC parts that got yanked from the targa.

Steve, I drove through 5pm traffic two days in a row and accept for I35 (parking lot) it was nothing like what I deal with every day in DC. I have been looking at houses west of town so I shouldn't be anywhere near the interstate. It sounds like traffic in those areas (major cities) is bad since 90% of Texas' poplulation probably lives there. Flying over the area it looked quite sparse.

Yep, I am pretty excited.

You're gonna leave before we see the ST at the track!!

Austin is a cool city. That's where I found the T. There seems to be lots of Porsche blood out there in the Republic of Central Texas.

Congrats on the new job, Jamie and best wishes for you in Texas. Drive fast in the targa and you won't need AC. Leave the ST replica here, OK? We'll take good care of it.

I called Jamie Saturday night to surprise him with news about having taken a 3 hour drive in my 911...only to have him roundly trump me with this news! Jamie, once again, Lidia and I are very happy for you and Margie and wish you all the best as you take on the next step in your career.

Well my parents are in Dallas now - so even if we're not hanging out as often as before, we should be able to get together now and again.

Dude,

Welcome! The HCRPCA is an active and fun bunch here in Austin. There are three race tracks 3 hours or less from Austin that enable you attend 10 DE's and 2 club races within a very short distance. There's a great indoor go kart track in Round Rock. Live music is great. Sounds like you'll be here just in time for SXSW. We all drive like crap here. Sorry about that. You'll get used to it.

Huge benefit of living in Austin.... Very low crime. Very very low.

Forget about AC. Trust me before you spend a ton of money trying to make it work. I have. No matter what any tells you, it's not possible! Sorry.

Look me up when you get here. I'll introduce you.

Welcome!

We moved from Houston a couple of years ago and if you pick the right place to live/work in Austin, the traffic is nothing like Houston, generally.

Let us know when you'll be here.
