transmission mount slack?

I just put my engine/tranny back in after my first drop. I noticed there is a gap (~10mm) above the rubber on the tranny mounts and the chassis. I can jack the front of the tranny up another 10mm with all the bolts tight. I did some searching and apparently this is normal? Can any experts confirm this?

Also, I would like to replace the transmission mount bolts, but I cannot seam to find them. Anyone have a source?

Hi rhk109. Yes it's normal. You probably noticed that the bolts were cone shaped on the ends. These tighten and bottom out in the receiving threads in the body.

From what I understand this is normal but my question is why? I changed my transmission mounts a few months ago and noticed the same thing. But why? Why have this space? Why not have it snug? Why?

OK, I am convinced it is normal. Anyone have a good reason why it is designed like this?

My 83SC had the same issue, but maybe only a 5mm gap. It kinda bugged me, so I ground down the length of the metal insert in the rubber mount (not the rubber), and added a few washers under the bolt head. No more gap.

Didn't notice anything unusual after, but it seemed to shift better......
