Multiple 911 owners?
 

How many of you own more than one 911? Why did you buy more than one?

As much as I love my car, Im thinking about getting a second one...to drive as a change of pace car, and maybe to track someday.

I bought mine last May. My wife liked it so much that she wanted one but not with the 915 tranny so we bought her '87 coupe last August. We both autocross now so it worked out great. I'm looking for a light project 914 car now for my 13 y/o son. It'll be my car to autocross but he can drive it when he turns 16. He'll pay for his gas but I keep ownership of the car until he goes off to college. Hopefully, that'll prevent some wild driving on his part.

I have often thought about this, I have never tracked my SC and really want to. However, it sooo nice I kind of feel guilty. I have often thought about buying a less expensive 911 or even a 944 just for DE and track. I just don't have the room, I have a two garage, and three cars already. Plus I think my wife would freak if I suggested buying another at the moment. If I could I would....go for it!

Yes, many 911s, at the peak 6. Only slightly nuts.

While you all are working on a 914 project, get your son in a go-kart asap. My son started at age 11, shifter karts at 14, and last year gradated to Spec Miata. This year is Formula Mazda.

He is a HS senior this year and he has a 2.0 911, a SCCA GT-2 914-6, and two 45’ tractor trailers full of goodies resting quietly until he graduates form college 5 years from now.

You won’t believe how much fun you both can have by you taking him racing. You crew, he crews and drives. My son and I agree, those were the best days ever.

You want him ready for his 911. A real multi-911 famaly.

Better answer, each car is incredibly different.

84 Targa is my daily driver.

69E was a chance deal too good to pass up and such a wonderful car, soft and squishy, elegant and simple, light and nimble and theres little like the 2.0 MFI approaching 7K. the best word to describe it though is "pure"

the 73 track car is a lifelong dream coming true now. Week 2 progress posted tonight.

You don't say what you already have. Depending on that, I say go for it, but just be prepared for the amount of time (not so much money) each car will require to be maintained.

I just created a two 911 family yesterday with my 1980 SC Weissach purchase. I am still wondering how this is going to work out. At least I do not have worry about a wife concerns anymore (divorced). I think two 911s will be just fine if not way cool. My S6 Avant will still probably be my daily driver.
This coming week I am teaching Auto Mechanics merit badge to five fourteen year old scouts --which should be interesting! Spoil them forever on the best cars in the world.

Now if I could get another one I would have oil spots on the floor of all three bays in the garage!

The '88 CS is pretty darn clean (only 26k on it) so I cannot bring myself to track it ......we all know what can happen out there.

So, 3 mos ago I picked up a 78sc that is being prepared for a DE car. I'm currently going through the suspension in preparation for some warmer weather.

I'd still love to have an early bodied 911 but 3 911's would be a tough sell at home. There is still some money left in the girls college accounts though :)

Very familiar story here too. Had a near perfect 88 911 that was too good to mod for the track (plus it was boring/slow in my opinion).

So I bought a 70 to build into a 73 RS replica track/tarmac rally car and then dumped the 88 when a magic 79 930 came along. The 930 is an awesome street car.

While I'm working on owning 3 Porsches (83 911, 83 944, 83 928S) I wouldn't mind an early Targa in the fleet someday. I like the idea of a vintage 911.

Yep- most definitely more than one! different cars for different duties; the 914-6 for drive to track/play/go home, the 70 S for collector fun, the 90>GT2-993 look for serious track, my first Porsche- a 70 targa becoming speedster R Gruppe conversion for the last 15 years (priorities!), and one or more RS /RSr projects

I have a 76 911S with a 79 911SC engine, so I kind of have two! For a month I had the 911 and still had an 86 944. That was pretty cool to see two parked out front. Hmmm which one shall I drive today?

Mike, I had both cars out washing them yesterday (so of course it's rained TWICE today) and enjoyed the double-takes as neighbors realized both the Porsches they've seen around are mine. Some said they never realized the 911SC targa and 944 were 2 different cars because "they're both red." :rolleyes:

And I was late for a meeting a while back and everyone said they assumed I was stuck in the driveway trying to pick which car to take!

Mutiple 911s seem perfectly normal to me. I sorta have the concept of 2 911 MFI engines in the stable. Allthough one will be in a 914. Almost counts.
