I'm planning to invest in a set of SSI heat exchangers soon, given the claims, a set that I hope to have a long time. Initially they will go on a 73S spec engine I'm building up. However, in the next 12-18 months I would like to upgrade to a 80-83 SC and want to transfer these to that car. Question is, given that criteria, what model SSI do I buy?
Do I buy the thin flange with the O2 sensor installed and plan later to shim the longer SC studs to make them fit, or do I buy the later model thick flange and change to longer studs on the early engine? As far as I see, these are the only differences? Thanks in advance to all you gurus out there for the advice... Fred |

Yes, you have a good grip on the decision. My input would be to say that it's far easier to shim the longer studs (mine are shimmed since I am using a stock '73 system on my '83), than to replace the studs on the '73.
