Cool Success!

After buying Wayne's 101 book and reading several projects, I decided that my 83SC needed a pedal cluster rebuild, clutch cable, and helper spring. I knew armed both with the book and the vast experience available on this board that I had a safety net should I need it. I purchased the parts from Pelican and set forth on my SCWDP venture.

The steps from Wayne's book were very clear and easy to follow. To save some frustration, after I removed the cluster I took it to a machine shop to have the old roll pin pressed out. After cleaning up the disassembled parts, I also had the machine shop press the new roll pin in. To complete all jobs, it took me about 6 hours.

Lessons learned:

1. it is easier to remove the circlip with the correct plyers
2. when you get frustrated, take a short break
3. your ribs are going to hurt from leaning inside the driver's side area
4. have a fully charged flashlight when you are underneath the car, even during daylight hours
take digital photos before you remove things so you can remember how to put them back right
5. have a metric set of allen wrenches
6. work on the car when the wife is at school and so are the kids
7. put vodka in your cranberry juice
8. call a local Porsche wrench shop to get a quote and tell your wife the price. Get a parts price from PP and do the work yourself and tell her how much you saved.
9. put the clutch spring on the pedal assembly before you put it on the car (it is very easy to do)
10. there are 4 nuts that hold the pedal assembly to the floor board and firewall. The nuts on the firewall are tack welded to the assembly. Take the fuel pump cover off the car from underneat and remove the nuts that way.

That's all I can think of at the moment. It was a great experience that I never want to do again because my ribs hurt.

I test drove the car on a quick run (it's raining in SoCal) and it is soooooo much easier to get into second with my 915 trans!

IT'S ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
