Porsche Crest 1st time Porsche owner - 911 3.2 88 cabrio upgrades/mods etc

I am a 1st time Porsche owner, 911 88 3.2 cabrio (US spec 217hp) imported to Germany. Car had 1 owner and 35K miles.

I would like recommendations on what upgrades and mods I should have done on the car. I want to keep it as stock as possible as the car is in A1 condition.

The shocks need changing and my local dealer tells me (and my German is not so good) to use SACHS and lower the car 1 inch. My US friends tell me NO only Bilsteins . Any advice? I will only use it for Street use in the summer and very little in the way of miles each year.

What other mods would make sense at this stage to keep the car in good running order? Turbo Tie Rods? new brake pads and metal hose etc?

It is going in for a service in a few weeks to have a wheel bearing change so I thought I would get some other stuff at the same time.

There has been much discussion on shocks on this board. If you are not tracking the car at all and want a fairly stock, but firm ride, go with Bilstein Heavy Duty all the way around. I would also get rid of the catalytic converter if it is still installed and switch it out with a european pre-muffler for a few more HP.

Kurt V - Thank you for the quick reply.
The Kat is the origonal G-Kat from the US. In Germany you need a KAT or they kill you on tax (a calculation based on the engine size and what type of KAT it has). My garage told me to get the G-Kat changed to the newer spec EURO II kat and tell me that you can get a performance verison (but it aint cheap).

if you need to retain a catalytic converter then just leave what you have on the car now. A NEW cat would probaly be 600+ us$ for a few, like 5 hp, so save the $$$ for the shocks etc...

Thanks Jerry. I will do that.

My option code list says that I should have an amp and speakers on the back shelf (I used a decoder on the web to decode the option code list). It looks like an amp for the stero was under the passenger seat at some time but aint no more. The Radio is not origonal, but ther is no sign of any holes in the rear shelf for spaekers. Is it possible that the amp was fiited with no extra rear shelf speakers?

Upgrades and mods. Hmmmmm, you can do everything and anything to your car. I wouldn't be in a huge hurry to do too many things if you just purchased the car. The danger you may run into is doing changes twice. Perhaps your first upgrade doesn't fit your next plan. I had my car a year prior to doing any real changes. If your not planing to track this car, I would be very conservative. Just do the minor changes needed. You sound like that is what you have planned so far. Bilsteins are very good, just stay away from the "sports" with your stock set up. HD's would be better.
