Well you can have them low, but then you need to fabricate small "oil-sumps" underneath every one and have it scavenged with (electric?) pump into the valve-covers or oil tank.
Has anyone ever used a seperate oil supply and recirculating system? I would think keeping the motor oil and turbo oil seperate would have certain advantages and simplify some componants of the installation.

Hey Rarely,, I just bought the almost exact set up as you have.. what do you think you're putting out for HP??

RarlyL8:
No they weren't. Sadly they cost as much as new SSI's, but I'm thinking the short primaries might help. I'm going to try something different than the 930 route. I was planning the Protomotive 3.2 route before Merv had issues with his engine. Since that went south I was thinking of ways that I could build something to my own taste and criteria. I'm looking at using modern GT20/GT25 turbos in a pair with I/C blowing into a Carrera intake.

I don't know about DME or aftermarket ECU. I don't know low impedence or high. I haven't decided on several issues. Initiallly it looks like I'm getting a very fresh 9.3:1 engine. Regretfully its Alusil so I can't just drop a set of JE's in her. I eventually will probably either use some base shims to get her to 9:1 and or new P&C's. Might depend on where the deck height currently is set at and how much I can work with it.

PROBLEM: I will have to find a new home for my 2.7 MFI engine :) someday. After I recover from this build up and finishing my low 9 sec drag car which is getting there. The sickness never ends.

9 - I've never had my engine on a dyno. The car runs mid-8s @90mph in the 1/8th which calculates just shy of 400hp.

Luke - you've busted open that piggy bank I see. I doubt Terre Haute is ready for a beast like that! ;)

Great thread.

I just had my K27 7200 "tweaked" - cost almost 1.5 times the cost of the original turbo. But it comes on like a freight train and hits maximum boost by 3800 rpm - on a dyno you can see a slight dip in power/torque as the wastegate opens just shy of 1 bar.

One thing I'd add is the merits of a strong five speed tranny. The gear spread is such that you can keep the revs in the sweet spot for the turbo which is IMHO more important than reducing turbo lag. Well, maybe not more important, but just as important.

Like Rarly I'm not into super high HP (apparently I'm at the limits of what my cabriolet can take safely) since I, as the driver, tend to back off long before the car is ready too. But that acceleration - ahhhh!

Anyone here messed with ITB's with their turbos? How much benefit do you think it really presents? I know the theory, but in reality what have people found? I know in the Mustang group (say what you want, they know boost too), they usually continue running a common plenum into serious 1000+ hp range.

Thoughts?

I'm just concerned about the difficulty of IC with ITB's.

I decided to go with GT20's which have T25 flanges yet should spool quite a bit quicker. Wow, the 993TT headers are really light and small, after receiving them in the mail yesterday.

WydRyd 12-07-2005 07:45 PM

Nice, post some pics of the headers Luke! Will u need to relocate that oil tank to fit the turbo on the side?

Lukesportsman 12-08-2005 05:24 PM

Nope Merv, no need to move the oil tank. I've got a 72!

Sadly I might have to remove that A/C part in the rear quarter that probably hasn't worked for a decade :)

I haven't received the turbos yet so I don't have a full grasp of space issues. They are certainly smaller than yours and you got her in there. Did you ever get the 3.2 running well again, Merv?
