ebay Speedster

Just looking (wistfully) at this '89 Speedster:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=6058&item=2462256367&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT

Take a look at the engine photo. No air conditioning. I would have thought that the kind of person who would buy one of these would want a/c too. That fan shroud looks very worn. And what is that cylindrical thingy on the lower left, that sticks out in front of the fan?
Nice color though. Most Speedsters seem to be either red or black.
Interesting that the 89 Speedsters seem to command higher prices than the 94 Speedsters. This one already over $45K.

I always wonder about the mileage on cars like that.

1000 miles per year. Yet, still finds it necessary to drill a phone into the center console. And have a huge amp drilled into the trunk. For a car that is never driven.

The engine looks like more than 1000 miles per year. Lots of corrosion on the hardware visible on the pic - hate to see what it looks like in person. That engine looks like it's been heat cycled, wet, and used a lot more than the miles on the odo.

IMO.

The cylidrical thing is an additional brace for the engine. It looks kind of like the shocks that support the deck lid. All cabs have them.

I'm a little skeptical. I'm no Speedster expert, but a couple things catch my eye.

Driver's seat looks a bit more worn than 14,000 miles. I've seen some with 30k+ that look better. Pics are blurry, so can't really note the wear on the steering wheel and pedal pads. They could help veryify or discredit mileage. No a/c is strange too. If you supersize the pic showing the center console, it appears the a/c knob is missing, and just the shaft for it is sticking out. If that's the case, it's been removed. But, I am also not sure, the climate controls for this year may be in the center of the seats. For $45k, I'd be looking closely at documentation for accurate mileage and mods.

Just "barley" broken in.. Does that mean you can still see the "grain" of the leather? ;-)
