Need distributor help on 87 Carrera
The springs that place tension on the mechanical advance weights (beneath the dust cap) in the distributor are mangled. Does anyone know of a way to get replacement springs without having to buy an entire distributor? Thanks.

Contrary to common believe, those are not "advance weights" in the common sense of the word. On the Motronic cars they shift the rotor so it is better aligned with the cap when the spark is triggered by the computer. They don't directly control the timing advance curve.
We just setup a distributor rebuilding program. Give Eugene a call at 1-888-280-7799, extension 260. -Wayne

Wow, I have the same issue. The posts that hold the springs are munged in my car. Sorry, not help, but I feel your pain. If I cant find anything soon I'm going to buy a distributor. If I end up with a new one, you are welcome to my spring.

My solution was to buy a used distributor, just for those two lousy springs. I tried to transplant the plastic spring retainers that sit on the posts, along with the springs from the used unit to the one in my car, but destroyed the brittle plastic bits in the process. So one of my mechanics took a couple of allen bolts, cut them to size, then drilled them hollow to place over the retainerless posts to keep the springs in place. Without those little plastic retainers, the springs would fly off the bare posts. I bonded the hollowed bolts into the posts with J-B Weld, and it seems to be working fine.
