I started a project a while ago. 1969 porsche 912 brought in from Los Angelas. Stripped, sandblasted, repainted.

Now, I'm bored of it. It has little to no rust left. The body is great. But there's so much work yet to be done, and I'm running out of time. Reassembled most of the body, installed headlner, glass, seals.

Do you think I should sell it and find a working one or is it better to keep it? If I sell it, how much should I fetch?

Running out of time, or patience? In its partially-assembled condition, the car is at the low end of marketability. It sounds like you have done most of the work (assuming you have a working drivetrain). I have nothing but admiration for the people on this board (and elsewhere) who have ressurected cars and have put their own stamp upon them. I would vote for hanging in there. Get it on the road. When you do deceide to move on, it will be worth more.

Finish it. It's worth less in pieces unless you sell the pieces individually which can be a pain and there will be some stuff you won't be able to give away.

When it is finished you will know exactly what you've got instead of having to possibly start over with someone else's mess.

Cars are like women in so many ways, some look great with the clothes on but you get them naked and oh boy.

You don't say where you are located. You could be in a pocket of high Porsche/Pelican concentration.

There may be plenty of guys in your neck of the woods willing to come over and lend a hand for nothing more than the company, chance to learn something new by helping you or what works for me, BEER.

Hmmmm. I try to think of the woman naked BEFORE I get to that point. Fewer disappointments that way. But then to have to rid myself of one that is naked, promising what she will look like all dressed up? Hmmmm.

Could you have lost sight of the 'all dressed up' vision? Go look at a 912 that is all dressed up. It might inspire you. Keep it and finish it, get some help if you need to, get past this 'block'.... it happens.

Best of luck. If you decide not to do it, this is the place to sell it.

I figure if you have taken care of the rust, you might as well be in for the long haul. It will be hard to recoup the money / time you spent on the sandblasting / paint?

I remember reading something in a British car magazine that - without fail and no matter who you are - everybody reached an "I've had enough of this" stage. I'm currently restoring a '72 TR-6 and trust me - I've had the same feeling on MANY occasions. But just remember that turning this around and getting back to seeing the job done is what separates you from lots of other failed restoration attempts. And this is to say nothing about bringing back an increasingly rare 912. You'll b e glad when its all done. Now get back in that garage!

aigel, I'm keeping the interior bare. No carpet or anything. This is going to be a street car. I was going for the *****ting look before the paint was done. Now that plans out the window.

What engine choice would be good to put in there. I had a subaru engine in there before I fell in love with the aircooled engine.

I will still have a car w/only essentials. It's gonna be a driver and not a garage queen.

How much do 3.2's run for? How hard to put it in there?

I think if you go 3.2, you mightaswell go 3.6. The 3.0 seems the best bang for the buck, at least in my book. A well sorted 2.7 can be a bargain too.

I am unsure what's necessary on the fititng side of things.

Oh, ya, I forgot, there is folks out there wit some extremely mean porsche 4 cylinders in their 912. That might be a fun (but not real cheap) route too. If you go autocrossing, you can build a real killer if you put the porsche 4 cylinder...

$4000-5000 depends on condition and 200hp is fairly easy to get with just a few mods.

A local dismantler will sell you a 3.0 with lower miles (I'd say less than 100k) for $5500 with a 90 day warranty. That's what I remember from the last time a pal checked with them. That's the professional dismantler price with warranty. Price wise, I'd take it from there, if you buy an engine from a private party.

I agree with others. Don't give up. Finish it.
