Hinge production status.

I have had alot of inquiries so I thought an update was in order.
The first run of Ti hinges is complete and all but one set have been delivered. I have yet to start on the SS hinges. I am taking a little break and trying to get my car done. I appreiciate everyones patience in the matter. After all I am one guy in a non-heated garage. All the hinges have to be handfit and it takes more time than I had imagined. I am working with a jobshop to have these produced on a grander scale and marketed thru a retailer.
Once again thaks for your patience. I am trying to keep up with demand. (I think I can...I think I can...I think I can...):D

Shawn,

Put me down for a set in S.S.... after 04/16/04 of course...

Derek,
You are on the list. I currently have 6 sets of SS to make. Probably will do them in one run. Starting in late April.

Shawn, are you going to do any in Al? Or just Ti and stainless?

thrown_hammer 03-03-2004 10:10 AM

The plan is just Ti and SS for production. I am doing a couple of "one off" sets in aluminum but they also need to be welded as my welder won't do aluminum.

how much for the hinges shawn?

thrown_hammer 03-03-2004 11:18 AM

Ti: $150 per set.
SS: $100 per set.

Just cause.
I looked up the previous post on the hinges from shawn, and the work on them looks very nice. But since I still have much to learn I was just wondering what gains do you get from either one over stock?
Weight, strength or a combo of both?
Or is it and addition.

Shawn, I definitely need 1 complete set in SS. Are you doing supplemental sets for decklid swaps? If so, please put me on the list for one of those as well.

Save a little weight, can flip the engine lid all the way back against the rear window for more engine compartment access, and last but not least the cool factor they just look good on the car.

These guys pretty much summed it up. It's mostly and early car thing as these are copies of the 911R decklid hinges. I don't know how it would look on and an acordian bumper car as I have never seen them on one. Here is a pic of the hinge and one on Clint's(911ctS) car. I should have a better idea on mass production by the end of the week. I will offer multiple tail sets when we enter the mass production phase. I feel with each set being hand fit it would be too hard for me to match up multiple tail pieces.

The time it takes to make a set is staggering! I looked at them and thought wow I could make hundreds of those in one afternoon in my garage! MAN was I wrong. With all the hand fitting and tweaking of each set takes hours.... Patience Grasshopper...
