Pull steering column shafts
In a '68, if I have the steering wheel off and placed the nut back on the threads, then do I need a shaft puller with a large washer to get the shaft out? The lower steering box is removed, front suspension out, so I'd like to soak the dusty, greasy differential joints on the column in e.g. lacquer thinner, and then regrease. Obviously, I'll remove the top bolt fastener of the column on the backside of the instrument panel. I did try removing the lowest differential joint and learned they don't simply come off with heat & leverage.
Anything I should be careful about if pulling the shaft where the steering wheel bolts on? Last edited by wkrtsm; 12-25-2024 at 11:02 AM.. |

Not sure about 68’s but later cars there are circlips inside the tube that need to be removed.
