Rebuilding engine questions

I am currently in the process of pulling the motor apart for a reseal. Currently I have good compression and burn mild amounts of oil. I was wondering is it wise to rering while doing this as the motor is apart. (108,000 kms-about 65,000 miles).

Also, I recently read an article about building a budget 930 motor in the "9 magazine" and they said by simply fly cutting the heads you can bump the comp. ratio up to 7.5:1. Is this true and is it advisable ????

Thanks Jerry S

what year and model? add it to your signature for better answers.
assuming it's a turbo, at 65K, it has nikasils, and a ring job with goetze rings should be fine, if the pistons and cylinders check out ok. worn guides and worn/crispy stem seals is the usual reason for oil consumption. disassemble all the heads and check them out. if you replace the guides, you need to cut the seats. moving the heads closer to the case results in a lineup problem with the cam thrust plates. you could trim the chain housings an equal amount, but the chains would have more slack. do-able, but don't get too carried away.

It is an 81 930 with about 65000 miles. I am guessing that clutches are a must at this stage.??
