mating 915 to 3.2L

I have a 3.2L engine from a 1986 (did those use the G50's?) and a 915 that I think is the original one in my 1973 911. What do I need to do to mate them together?

Do I use the stock 3.2L flywheel?

What clutch items do I need?

Thanks!

the '86 3.2 was still mated to the 915 trans. I have the same combo in my car. ('86 engine, '73 trans) I am not sure on the flywheel and clutch stuff. I do know you have to notch the bell housing for some of the DME sensors.

The stock flywheel should work as that 3.2 was originally mated to a 915. Same with a clutch. '84-'86 clutch parts mated with my '76 915 just fine.

You need to notch the transmission to allow for the speed and reference sensor (the notch at about 2:00 as viewed from the transmission end of the engine). The notch at top dead center is not required as that sensor doesn't do anything...

Which brings up a good observation. The top sensor is the TDC sensor, which during my rebuild I bought a new one. I then discovered that the other end of the wire just goes to a capped off plug under the intake manifold. It serves no purpose. Is this just used for some piece of test equipment?

Yeah, I think it is just a diagnostic tool - it serves no purpose in actually making the engine run...

Thanks - I don't need any sensors as i have carbs on. But I don't have the 3.2L clutch stuff, only the 3.2L flywheel.

I do have the original clutch stuff from where the 915 was mated to a 2.&L the PO had in the car. Would any of that work?

And if I replace the disc, what p/n should I get? Or what size is it, etc.

Randy-

If you are not using the DME & sensor for ignition timing, what distributor are you using with the carb conversion? The 3.2 distributor does not have any provision for timing advance because the DME does that, right? I believe my conversion used a Euro 3.0SC distributor because it has mechanical advance.
