81 SC rev limit?

What's the RPM my rev limiter should come in on the 81 SC?

Does the fuel pump rev limiter work as well as the ignition based ones? I mean, it will take some time until the fuel pressure is low?

I have installed a shift light which works great, but I am curious now, since I need to pick an RPM to set the light at. I think 6k rpm is plenty, if not a bit lower. There isn't much above 5800, maybe only the fact that you land in a good region the next gear up...

TIA, George

6500 RPM ± 200.

Kind of scared me first time it hit.

It was sort of an "oh$hitwhatjustbroke" sinking feeling, before I realized what it was.

I was waving to a beautiful motorcyle west bound on I-92 last weekend, I looked down and I was 400 RPM into the red zone. My limiter never went on. Guess I don't have one.

Mine kicks in at 6800 rpm, sometime scares the poop out of me if I'm not expecting it. The car lurches pretty hard when it comes on, cut's the fuel I believe.

how about a 79? The only time I have ever had an issue was in 1st gear. I think I hit it but it all happened so fast. I sort of wish first gear was a little taller cause I can get to the red in first way too fast. My guess is it is around 6800 too.

I agree with Paul.
I missed a shift once while accelerating hard on a bumpy road.
I felt the rev limiter cut in, deep into the red zone (6500+).
It does seem to cut-in rather abruptly. Scared the ***** out of me!

Rev limiter.....

Yep, somewhere between 6500 and 7000 rpm the rev limiter cuts in. Its like someone reached over and turned the ignition off! It will definitely get your attention!

I just posted the same thing in the other rev-limiter thread.

Mike, I don't think the rev-limiter in the targa works. I don't know for sure but once I tried to test it... I slowly reved it up til it was at about 6700 rmp... at that point I lost my balls.

We all need to get together and ask Pelican to carry the cap and rotors off the euro 3.0L's that have the centrifugal rev-limiting rotors.

Even "if" you think your box works or even if you know it works... I can't see the harm in having a backup.

Personally, I'll take a centrifugal rev-limiter any day compared to one comprised of a twenty year old circuit board.

Cheap insurance, if you aks me.

Thanks Leland. It all happened so fast. But I think it did work cause I didn't look at the tack until something strange scared the crap out of me. I don't remember what happened though. At that point I had let off the gas and the tack was falling back out of the red. When my blood started flowing again I assumed it was the rev. lim.
I don't know but I sure would like something I could depend on. What is the max anyway? I have only gone past 6000 by accident a couple of times. I thought that red line was there for a reason.
