check TO bearing
Is there any way to check the throw out bearing to see if it needs (or soon will need replacement)? This is on a 915 tranny -- also are there any plasitc peices on the ends that should be replaced or any other bearings, etc.?
The trans is out of the car. |

TOB's are luck-of-the-draw. Replace it. If that's not an easy decision, then you can spin it in your hand and, if its action is as smooth as butter with no noises, then sure, reinstall it. But you'd still be taking a chance that it's tired and then you'll be removing the engine again to replace it.

a new bearing has very little clearance between the unit parts. Even if it's still feels new the old grease and heat is a bad combo on a sealed brg. If new is a problem.. I have a very good used brg I just removed a few months ago because I was in there. It's yours for $0

I've been thinking about a way to relate the TO brg. to the "uncertainity principal" by that guy whose name starts with a H. I figure those electrons and bearings have a lot in common.
