Engine Sound Pad Install que
 

The engine is down, the tranny is getting some much needed tlc, and Pandora's Box has been cracked wide open. Got a new sound pad and just trying to get the thing in the engine bay bay was a challenge----add 3m 90 adhesive and it seems like this is going to be the sacrificial pad that I learn on and not the one that is going to be the final install.

Any quick tips from anyone who has cracked the code? I was told to start at the bottom and work up, but I'm afraid I'll miss the strut mount holes. Any comments out there??? Thx!

This may help. Many adhesives don't stick to.... wax paper. I think this applies to the 3M 90 spray glue. You can use sheets of WP to prevent the upper half from sticking while you align and install the bottom part of the sound pad. Of course, trial fit it first. Spray both surfaces per directions, apply to the bulkhead, then use a roller to apply even pressure to the pad.

The trick is to fit the sound pad without adhesive and then let it sag in its location, spray the adhesive on the body and pad, let the adhesive get tacky, press the pad up into its location, secure the clips, and apply some pressure for a minute or two.

if you are gong to paint, then do that first.

put a bead of some extra adhesive at the top lip also.

I just did mine. Worked it into place. Fortunately I have small hands and could get it tucked into the lower corners without too much pain and suffering. I then pulled out the upper right corner and glued, then upper left, then lower left then lower right.

Nice points- all. I like the idea of installing it first and then maybe putting a small wooden dowel in across the tail strut mount points, and then spraying the adhesive. Thanks!
