Oil Temperature QUestion

The heat is on in So Cal. It was about 95 degrees when I drove home today. I had my A/C (joke) on full in my 87 3.2 Carrera and was basically in stop and go traffic for about 40 minutes. Under these conditions, my Oil Temp Guage typically flirts with reaching the 3rd white line (250 degrees?). It never quite reaches it, but almost does. Is my Carrera running unusually hot? Or, is this normal for 95+ days? It has 150,000 miles on the odometer. The engine does not seem to be struggling at these temps.

Thanks.

Mike

I'm hoping that under those circumstances, your car is among the more common than not. Mine is similar, especially when things are moving slowly. You might want to look under the car and see if the rear vents for the oil cooling need a cleaning. I did that recently, but not sure if it will lower things that much, as the car needs movement to actually cool it.

regards,

Mike,

That seems normal - at least for me it is. I hit the second temp line when the outside temp is up - if it gets any hotter - turn up the heat to try and bring it back down. It has been hot lately - the weather is nice tomorrow (84°) - maybe i'll take the top off and get a sunburn on the way to work.

My 83SC ran hot yesterday (~220F) while in traffic too. Normal is ~180-190F. It was great here in SoCal. Summer in winter.....David
