Flat Tire Fixing

Here is a quick question concerning tires.

It appears my rear tires, yes both, pickup a screw in each in the fall. Maybe I was spiked, but I don't want to believe that.
One tire didn't hold air and I had to do a roadside repair with a plug. The other tire held and I just had it patched.

FYI, I have been running Blizzaks WS-50s all winter. AWESOME snow tires!

Now, about the tire with the plug. Is this safe for the track or should I have it pulled and a patch put on?
The tire is a Michelin Pilot Sport, 245/16. PEP Boys charges $25 for the patch and rebalance. I could care less about the cost, if it is the safer way to go.
