oil change question
Warning stupid newbie question follows...
I was changing my oil for the first time last weekend (following the instructions in the 101 projects book). I'm going by memory here, but I'm pretty sure that in the book, Wayne says to drain the tank, then remove the filter, then drain the sump. So this is what I did. Today, I was reading through Wayne's write up for pulling the engine (I'm not planning on doing this soon, just trying to learn), and I read this: "The first step in changing your oil is to remove the oil filter._ You want to do this first, because there is often oil left in the filter, and when you remove it by twisting it, this oil has a tendency to flow back into the tank." So what's the deal. I doubt it makes a big difference, but I was wondering in what order most people do this, and is there any advantage to either way. Thanks

John,
I drain the tank, leaving the drain plug off, then remove the oil fiter, let the oil drain, then replace drain plug and move to the sump...

Is there a reason for reinstalling the tank plug before removing the sump plug?

Unless you have more than one oil recovery device, you'll need it for the sump.
