jacking... creaking... squeeking
hi all,
jacked up my newly aquired T last weekend. This is probably a dumb question, byt I was just wondering if its normal to hear some creaking and squeeking on the way up? Should I be worried about this. Also, just to let you know, I did like many other pelicanites i have read about... Even after reading all the warnings, I spilled oil all over the garage floor while doing the first oil change. Oil container was large enough, but the hole for the oil to enter wasn't. Turned a quick and easy job into a two hour ordeal. I had to run to the store to buy kitty litter. Oh well, live and learn. Even with the setback, I had fun doing it. Its been awhile since I've worked on my own car, and I forgot how enjoyable it is. Cheers |
My racecar squeaks and creeks, but there is not a
rubber bushing anywhere |
so could it be a matter of worn motor mounts?
Try and narrow it down to the front or the rear
of the car, Motor mounts........doubtful |
it was coming from the rear. i didn't really try to isolate it. could have been from the rear suspension, maybe elsewhere. but i'm pretty sure it was coming from the rear half of the car.
my educated guess would be torsion tube bushings
Torsion bars will make a similiar sound as you jack it up and down.
thanks for the quick respnses minkoff. i'll try to figure out exactly where the noises come from next time i get the car off the ground. thanks, i love this board. ;)
Good Luck!
oh yeah, if it is the either of these things mentioned, is it something I should be worried about? thanks
Neither are dangerous, but will affect performance and warrant replacement at some point.
Could it just be that a targa will creak a bit. My old car (targa) always creaked when jacked up. the door wouldnt close properly etc. If you don't think they flex, gingerly place your finger in the gap left between the top of the door panel and the dash while driving in your drive way or over some bumps. Be careful not to stick your finger in too far or you will get quite a pinch.
Cheers, Geoff |
