Ducktail has arrived
 

I got my ducktail in the mail yesterday. I expected it to be a bit beat up but it actually seems to be in pretty good condition.

Now I need to figure how to ducktail+decklid hinges+AC compressor...without bungling things up too much.

Anyone have a recommended place in the Bay Area to get this repainted to match my car?

I have been told that the condensor can stay mounted to the hinges when replacing the deck lid. This should make the transfer easier. That lid looks great! Please post pics after it is painted and installed.

Has anyone tried this at home ?

The problem is that I want to install some 911R style decklid hinges. This would mean removing the internal hinges.

Hmm...I guess I could keep both and just have the external 911R style decklid hinges be 'cosmetic'. Wow..that'd be really odd.

First for the paint. I did the prep work myself on a 1976 Carrera tail, including taking it apart, which you do not need to worry about, and took it to Maaco to paint. It turned out really good. I paid $200.00, and they purchased the Porsche paint.
There is only one place where the condensor is supported to the decklid. It is a clamp that goes over the top of the condensor and attaches to the decklid. The condensor is attaced to the hinges. You will have to drill some holes in the 911R hinges for the brackets from the condensor to connect.

Yes, a very well-known duck owner informed me of this fact.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the hinges under the hood. I think you will still need the keep the hinges under the hood. That is the main support of the condensor.

I would think you could fabricate something for the condinser to attach to, but I have never really looked at the se-up. I don't have A/C :)

I don't think you could use both. I think they would work against each other, unless both sets kept the same gap as the lid is opened. Does that make sense?

That "duck" lid is going to look great when its finished. Are you sure you want to put the 911R hinges on your Carrera...? I understand they are for weight saving or for the puropse of replicating a 911R, but aesthetically speaking, they may not be a positive. Furthermore, if you are keeping your A/C, it may be a pain to mount it on the "duck" lid.

Yuhp, at this point I'm starting to write off the decklid-hinge installation and just go with a normal ducktail install. Too bad though cause those hinges seem sooo purty. :)
