I take the long way home.
I take the long way home:
1. Scenic routes. 2. Staying away from other cars. 3. Saving the clutch on uphill traffic lights/stops. 4. Staying away from tailgaiters. Anyone else?

I took the long way to work yesterday and ended up in a hit and run...if anybody sees a black ford taurus SHO with guards red paint on its driver side rear 1/2 of the car let me know. That SOB sent me into a 180 spin and bald spotted all four tires, in addition to F@%$ing up my front passenger fender/door/rear fender. It happened going south on PV Drive West by point vicente lighthouse, 100% the other guys fault and if i wasn't driving my porsche (turbo brakes) i would not be writing this message right now. Sorry for the venting, just not looking forward to dealing with my insurance company. The upside if there is one is that i wanted to get the car painted anyways

Dude, that sucks. You should definitely call the police. If they are on the lookout, they can ask body shops in the area to look out for him.

Taking the long way home is almost a must. Especially when they're windy country roads. However, i've noticed that almost invariably i end up behind a slow driver who kind of spoils the fun. It must be all the geriatrics out here or something.

I called the police the second it happened, i would have tried to turn around and fallow the guy but i had to worry about oncoming traffic and if my car was even drivable. I had to deal with the Sheriffs dept. not PVE but i can say that the cop was really a cool guy and hung around for like an hour to make sure i was ok. The car is at Ron's Autobody right now, waiting for my insurance to go look at it. Then i get to drop way too much cash on top of it all to get the entire car painted. I seriously doubt the guy is going to go to a body shop, his car looked like a piece to begin with.

I too take the long way home, I will the answer to the slower car in front is, if there is no-one behind you stop and let them drive away, I know on my twisty bit just before my house (4.3 miles, 24 turns) if I can get 60 seconds before the next car comes along behind me, I have open road until the end. I will catch the slower car right at the end of the twisty bit, so I don't get home any later, but it is more fun.

Long way home? To let oil reach operating temp and to cruise PV Drive West at 4k rpm (sewing machine).

Every single day I take the long way home...doubles my commute time but it's worth it for a little Daddy/P-Car time.

Our roads in Wayne County, MI are so bad that when I drive the 911, I always plan my route to avoid known bad spots, potholes, etc... The roads here make the Ho Chi Minh Trail look pretty good! I do try to get a more scenic drive in as often as possible.

Just read a piece in a Jaguar mag, that Steve Mc Queen would take Mulholland Drive home from Warner Bros studio in Burbank to his home in Zuma Beach each day. Driving his Jag XKSS (a D type race car the factory "streetified") he would enjoy his long way home at high rates of speed. Back then Mul highway was actually paved from Sepulveda to Topanga. sigh.....

It always takes me longer to get anywhere when I drive the Porsche, ironically, because I do take the long way. Get's me more time in the car, raises oil temps. Pure unadulterated fun ...
