On the vertical upright to the right of the fan. It should be something like: *63XXXXX* The third digit is for the year, ie a '0' is for a 1970 motor, a '1' for 1971, etc. The last four digits are the sequential serial number of the motor.

I believe you will find the engine ID number engraved on the flat surface behind the vertical serial number. A bit hard to see. It will be 911/xx where xx tells you the motor characteristics. Example 911/42 means 1975 2.7 911S, CIS injection with 35mm Intake and 35mm Exhaust and the 8:5.1 CR and is rated at 175HP.
So that XX part has a lot embedded in it.

That is a 1977 911S motor from a US coupe or targa. It is a type 911/81 motor. The other # you listed is a part #, not an identification #.

The type number is engraved on the horizontal metal surface right behind the vertical serial number. You may have to clean off that surface to see as it is hard. If it is 911/81 this tells you it is a 76/77 2.7 911 ROW. It is not the S model Sportomatic as for those years that would be 911/86.
Best to find this number!

RIX,

I was mistaken about the type # I listed. For the motor # you listed it is a 911/85 motor, not a 911/81. Sorry for the confusion.

Cool guys I found the engine type # it's 911/90, it was hard to find the numbers we're small but I found it, if the number was 911/81 it would tell me it's a 76/77 2.7L ROW and if it was 911/86 it would tell me it's a 911S motor right, well what will 911/90 mean? and witch is better the 911 ROW or the 911S whats the diffrence?

911/90 is for a 1977 911S US Sportmatic engine. So your engine # must be 6279XXX. There were 113 of these engines in that year. The ROW and US engines have a rating of 165 bhp.

The third digit is '2' so your motor is from a 1972 911T. The year of the 4th door.
