Rick,
He has a factory turbo-look. My car I am referring to is a 1988 944 Turbo Cup. The PO painted the calipers red. I have to remove the bleed screws, the bridging tube, the retainer spring, mask the pistons, strip the paint somehow and repaint...

Not sounding fun, George. But we all know they'll look great when you're finished with them.
Have a great weekend all.....

Thanks for the advise guys - Im just so excited about my car getting new rotors and pads that I figured it would be a good time to concider paint. Glad you guys talked me back in to reasoning -
Now I got to think about the wheels. It has Fusch wheels but the PO before me had them cromed (doh) so I want to either go black center or new wheels all together. I need that advise befor ei get the tires mounted (ETA Tomorrow)

Won't the brake fluid lift most paints, including the VHT paint?

There are chemical resistant paints. My old 964 calipers were painted w/ chemical resistant Glassurit epoxy. They are very resistant to brake fluid/paint issues.

slightly more heat will be lost from the caliper if it is painted -- any non-metallic color than if it is left with a metal finish. The worst would be polished metal. Paint increases the emissivity for long wave radiation. A thin coat of paint will not affect convective (wind) heat transfer to any maeasurable degree.
But... none of this matters as the real transfer of heat is to the rotor and then away from that. |

I think someone ought to polish their calipers...
![]() Mine are yellow, and I don't really care for it. But they stop like hell!

FUCHS! - pronounced "fooks"
Since you have the factory widebody with the 930 suspension you may as well get a turbo so you have a complete package (that is a joke BTW) - And please, please, do not paint the calipers red. If they are scruffy looking have them repainted in the proper black. You have awesome BRAKES, no need to show off!

Also, while we're here, can people please get "brake" instead of "break" right. It's similar to the classic, "your" and "you're" and "there" and "their". While subtle mistakes in language are fine, there are some basics that we just have to get right. This is simple language people. Let's keep our language standards as high as those that we have for our Porsches. Flame away if you insist. Tristan Last edited by Ho Hum 74; 03-13-2004 at 08:52 AM.. |

I'm not into "blinging" our cars up at all, but I do often find that having one or two minor and tastefully-done dress up items (painted calipers, painted valve cover, etc) on a high end car seems to catch the eye without being too tacky. The pic of the grey 911 is a good example - the flashes of red catch the eye, they say "performance", and contrast with the understated styling and colors of the basic car. This type of thing is very much a matter of personal taste.

I have a 76 930 and put big reds on it 5 years ago. The car is a copper color and I think they look good. My wife got an Infiniti FX-35 a couple of months ago that is black. It has the 20" wheels. It also has some big silver painted calipers. I thought it would look cool with red calipers. So I order the kit from Pelican and my wife intercepts it. She said no way in hell am I ruining her car with red painted calipers. So I have the kit which I think cost 69 bucks. It is for sale if anyone is interested.

These stock calipers were powder-coated by the PO. Get lots of compliments, I think the red looks really good on a black car.

Well as you've seen there is a wide range of opions.I feel that in the end you should do what you think you will like. Most of us at this BBS change our cars in one way or another to make it what we want it to be. Remember that it is your P car and you work on it only for your own satisfaction. It would be way to hard to meet everyone else idea of right. Randy
