Are red calipers stupid looking?
Assuming my break repair goes as planed -
Is painting my black calipers to red on my black carrera a bad idea? I don't want it to have that "look at me, look at me" but at the same time since I have the Fusch wheels I feel the brake's deserve a little attention since they are so hidden behind the wheels. |
Red looks great on Bid Reds. I think everyone can agree on that. When it comes to the A Calipers, it is a personal preference thing. I personally don't like them painted, and prefer the stock un painted surface.
To each his own. Either way it is still a 911. Noel |
I did mine and i don't think it looks too ricey. personal choice.
|
personally , painting calipers is a bit beyond me...
if they happen to be red when i buy them, fine. if they're black, fine too yelloow, green , pink , orange... not fine but i haven't seen any calipers in those colours at least not from the factory |
I guess I should have mentioned that the calipers are "TURBO calipers witht he Turbo Rotors" but fromt he looks of it it seems they were factory black with red lettering.
Maybe I should just repiant in original colors and see how they look first. They just seem to disapear behind the fusch though |
Red should be reserved for those brakes that left the factory that way.
Original colors or dull alum. silver, in a chemical-resistant spray. Understatment is the best way to go. Also, it is brake, not break. Please make a note of this ;> John |
Anyone have pictures of new or 85 factory color looking "brakes" (turbo)?

From a technical-only standpoint in this forum...
you might want to take into consideration that many paints won't stick for very long if the aluminum surface isn't prepared well, and low-quality general purpose paint is used. The paint will also hold in heat, and could contribute to brake loss in continuous high speed driving. |
I wish I had painted my factory red calipers black or silver before installing them...
|
OK so bottom line, what is the recomendation here?
Just refinish in original look? |
Do what you like.
You're most likely going to find many painted examples here on this board...use the search. You'll see as you go through the few threads on the subject that you can use VHT caliper paint. http://www.vhtpaint.com/breakcaliper.htm I agree with the fact that paint will hold heat. But a well prepped and painted caliper will dissipate heat better than the one that has the usual years of grunge and rust on them. |

I will do it some time. The e-brake hub on the rear, too. |
Flame me if you want - but I did it - and I think they look nice - there is no performance value for polishing my fuchs - but lots do it too.
For the record - when I had a sticky caliper - I replaced everything including calipers, pads, rotors, lines, superblue and speed bleeders and bearings. Oh - I cleaned the wheel wells too - even though that gave me ZERO performance enhancement. http://www.a1-staffing.com/big_fuchs_close.jpg |
Jeremy - your ride looks great - reallyit does! Ilov ethe gray (silver or whatever)color
The diference with my breaks though is that they have little fins on the calipers. So I am trying to find a picture of what they might have looked like when new, any ideas? |
|
My calipers are aluminum, then painted black. They are a bit tired looking - but what did I expect for their mileage...
In any case, I was wondering if anyone had their aluminum calipers bead blasted then polished? That could look pretty cool - without the issues of paint. |
|
Paint them red--its your car. I'm going through the same process right now--at least scrub them really clean with wire brush and scouring pads-then decide. Mine look alot better cleaned up now and I could get by without painting but I'm going to do the rotor hats as well and really clean them up and paint them.

My breaks look like emission's - just as dirty too!
So should we pain or nah? |
Big,
What do YOU want to do??????????????????????????? |
