Rocker Panel Rubber....Help
I am putting my 74 Targa back together after a paint job. I put the rocker panels back on and I am having a difficult time getting the rubber molding back on. What's the magic technique to getting them on? When I try sliding them on from one end, the lower lip always comes out.

I put a bit of soapy water on mine... Then bend the strip backwards (more than 90 deg.) and push it on...
Worked for me, YMMV

To elaborate on Chris' suggestion. When you bend the rubber back, the lips spread further apart which allows easier engagement with the rocker panel. You don't have to slide it on from one end. Just start from one end, spread the rubber and push into place. Soapy water works as does silicone spray. I would also use stainless steel rocker panel screws to reduce corrosion formation.
It's also described in the factory repair manual. Sherwood |

I have found that a little liquid soap (sans water) works great. I use it as a libricant anytime I am trying to slip something rubber over metal.
