Angry Electrical Gremlins - interior lights and horn -

My 87 Carrera is showing some odd electrical gremlins as of late. The interior lights seem to go on and off at will if I leave them in the middle position (I am leaving then in the off position for now). And today, I just got a call from my wife that the horn was going on and off by itself. I could actuially hear it in the background as she was driving on the freeway. Note that the horn is not even hooked up in this car as the horn contact ring was on the old steering wheel and was lost (I have a Turbo S wheel in the car now). What gives? The battery is fine and the alternator was replaced a week ago. The light issue predates the alternator being replaced by the horn going off by itself is a new one.

Lights = corrosion in switches
Horn = hot wire behind pad is grounding itself when wheel turns.

John - I hope you are right. I actually had my wife pull of the freeway and pull off the horm pad and check the wires. The odd thing is that this should not be possible as the horn contact ring that sits at the base of the wheel is missing so the horm does not work. There is probably something in there that caused it to connect somehow.

Nothing like a pretty blonde driving down the freeway in her bright red Porsche, wearing a 5 point harness, talking on a cell phone with the horn randomly blaring away. Wish I had been there -

Also check the button that is between the door, near the door stop kit. It's the button that makes the interior lights on and off when the door is open and closed. It should have a rubber nipple that goes around it, if it doesn't or it's torn then that might be the cause of your some of your gremlins.

Thanks Pari - I already replaced the rubber boots on these as they were torn. I did not refurb the switches though as they were working o.k. at that time. This is probably where the problem lies with the lights.

My pleasure ZCAT3! A friend of mine had the same problem you are having with the interior lights in his 964. He replaced the switches and the rubber that covers them, and no more gremlins. I hope this is the source of the problem. Let us know what the cause of the gremlins are when you find out.
