Repairing leather seats

My '77 911 has factory leather sports seats. I love them, especially the lateral support. However, 27 years of sliding into and out of them has torn up some of the leather. Any recommendations for the repair of such seats?

Doug

i just had the bolster in my carrera replaced, it was worn through, i had it replaced with quality vinyl since it's a "high wear" spot.
cost me $135 by a local upholsterer and looks nice.....will look nicer once they're dyed black

Auto upholstery places can replace with leather or for a cheaper version you can go with 'pleather' or vinyl.

Why not try posting a WTB on the classified board here on pelican. There are a lot of track addicts that move onto recaros and race seats. There's bound to be someone who is letting go of a nice pair of seats.

My seats are splitting at the side seams (stock 79sc sport seats). Is it worth restitching them - who can do that, I've been to a few upholsterers and they're quoting around 350.0 per seat. Any place to ship them to for refurbishing?

repairing leather seats

Your seats can be repaired as long as the leather has not dried out . The price you were quoted sounds a bit high but I'm not sure where you're located. Send me a pic of your seat and I'll try and give an idea of what you should pay .

The stitching on the passenger seat is starting to come apart. Can I just remove the leather and bring it to a shop to have it restitch?

Anyone ever rebuilt a PORSCHE seat? I reskinned my Targa top last summer and need a project this summer.

Tools involved?
