Questions about shops and service history
On March 4th I bought an '86 Carrera in beautiful shape. Only one PO and he kept meticulous service records right up to the present. I even have the original bill of sale and window sticker. From the beginning, he always took the car to the same independent shop (Storz Garage in Denver), which others have said is very good. However, I have no experience with them and I tend to trust dealers a little more. As we speak, the car is being serviced at a Denver dealership that I've heard good things about.
First question is, if this were your car, would you be inclined to continue to take the car to Storz just because they already know the car? Second question is, if you were a prospective buyer of the car, would you be more favorably impressed if all the service receipts were from one shop instead of several shops? |

If the car was in such great shape, why would you question the independant? They kept it this way.
Trusting dealers....that one sticks in my craw, I think it's more about people, reputation and costs. With the independant is it always the same person working on the car, how much experience do they have (are they master mechs) vs. the dealer different guy every time, could be a trainee. Not all independants are good not all dealers are good, and vise versa. You asked for my(our) opinion, and all the receipts for a car since new from one place why would you even consider going anywhere else? Think of the independant as your cars doctor, they new the car since being a baby, and nursed it through all it's sicknesses. Now you own that car, is it in the best interest of the child to take it to a new doctor ![]()
