Painted Alt Fan

SP2, as requested, here's an updated pic of the painted fan.

I haven't touched or cleaned it at all since I installed it over 2 1/2 years ago. I drive this car daily, so it has held up well.

If I were to do it again (which I will at some point), I would powder coat. I think it would give it more of a cleanable surface. As for durability and overall finished look, I have no complaints.

Best of luck, Gordo

Whoa, that looks like it did 2 years ago. Thanks for the tip about powder coating, and I might do that, but I am pretty sure I am going to go your route. I might even use the exact same technique of masking the alternator strap like you did. It looks like it might be easier with the engine on a stand like mine is now.

Thanks Gordo! :)

Im having the same trouble with this strap removal, what is the process to setting up the dizzy and crankshaft at TDC Number 1?

Look at your pulley and rotate it to Z1 by sqeezing the fan belt and using a socket on the alternator/fan shaft.
Now open the cap. The rotor either points to the notch in the distributor-housing (That's what you want) or, it points 180 deg. opposite. Rotate the crank another full turn until you have Z1 and the rotor pointing to the notch. Now you are at TDC for #1.
Remove the distributor with a little prying from underneath.

For the strap: Brute force and a lot of wiggling is needed to remove it.

Now is a good time to clean and lube your distributor.
Do a search. I have posted details on how to do it the easy way.

Wow that is nice. How did you get the fan and housing back in without chipping the surface here and there when putting tha cbles back on the alternator and installing the back cap?

Also I think about blasting my fan and housing with glass powder. Any expirience?
